what's tomauro?
“What is the feeling when you're driving away from people, and they recede on the plain till you see their specks dispersing? It's the too huge world vaulting us, and it's good-bye. But we lean forward to the next crazy venture beneath the skies.”

Haebongchun

I discovered this area a couple months ago and automatically fell in love with it. The only downside being it is just a short walk away from the foreigner mess that is Itaewon. I  would like to share some excellent places to eat and drink in the hip, San Francsico-esque area of Seoul.

Seoraksan National Park

Before winter really hit, I wanted to get in a hiking trip to Seoraksan National Park. I had heard that this was Korea's Yosemite and there were some challenging, yet breathtaking heights. My friend Eleanor and I made it just in time to see fall sprinkle the park with orange, brown and yellow. Overall it was a great way to clear my head from the Seoul smog and overpopulation.

Lotte World: the Corporate Disneyland of South Korea

Besides being inside a large department store and drastically smaller, Lotte World made me feel like I was right back in good ol' Anaheim.

DMZ Tour

Anything and everything you could want exists within Seoul. There is a restaurant, club or network to fill every hobby or desire, because of this it is easy to feel comfortable in South Korea. The Hangeul billboards and indistinguishable conversations going on around you are the only things that pull you back into the mindset that you're living abroad. There is also a rather large reminder that your far away from home.....it lies just north of you, the awkward elephant room, the butt of all the jokes from your friends back home. Well two weeks ago I decided to face it head on. I decided to recognize I live less than 2 hours away from a country that is completely cut off from the rest of the world and visit the Demilitarization Zone between North and South Korea.

Busan and Ulleungdo

I managed to get out of the city for two weekends in September. Raye and I took a short weekend trip to the south to get reacquainted with the beach. Then for my Chuseok holiday we went on an Adventure Korea trip to the south eastern island of Ulleungdo.

My First Month as a Korean Alien Resident

My future posts plan to be myself documenting my experiences in Korea, possibly providing advice for perspective English teachers, while also reporting my days to any friends/ family that check my blog. So far my first month is done. The process of becoming a documented resident here was somewhat daunting but I have throughly enjoyed continuing to explore my new home.

A Wandering Seoul

I've taken two weeks to collect my thoughts before I write on here. The truth is moving to a new city is such an exciting yet jolting experience, especially when you're moving to the other side of the world.
